The Beauty in Painting Furniture

We all know that painting your furniture is a great way to refresh a room without spending a lot of money on new pieces. It’s an easy and affordable DIY project, and with the right attitude it can also be a lot of fun! The thing that many of us don’t know is that it can also be a smart financial choice to paint new furniture!

Have you ever noticed that we often might find beautiful pieces that fit our design visions and budgets perfectly…except for one thing; the color! A little known industry secret is that neutral colors like white, beige, and light natural wood are less expense than bold bright or dark rich colors to produce. This is because these colors sell in greater quantities due to their neutral nature.

This is great news for those of us who are a little more daring when it comes to designing our spaces because we can use this to keep costs down. If you’re not afraid of putting in a little work for a major payoff you can purchase low cost neutral furniture and use a free weekend to breathe new life into it by painting it any color that makes a statement in your space.

However, do a bit of research before choosing the type of paint that you plan to use. For example, you might want to use a high gloss latex paint for a chic look, but bear in mind that for a professional finish you’ll need to thoroughly sand down the piece. On the other hand you might choose to use chalk paint, which is a type of paint that can be used to create a shabby chic or vintage look. This would allow you to avoid the sanding step (depending on the way in which the piece has been finished and it’s condition) but don’t forget to seal it with wax once it’s dry!

Whatever you choose, there is nothing like having a piece that is uniquely your own to help complete a space.
